Millions of people are finally discovering the vast benefits of the cannabis plant. Reportedly helping with everything from pain management to creativity, new uses for the wonder plant are being discovered every month. Can we add weight loss to the laundry list of benefits the cannabis plant is reported to help? Well, maybe.
Found in the endocannabinoid system of our bodies, 2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) is a compound thought to help regulate metabolism and blood sugar. Controlling these 2 factors is critical for proper weight and health management. THC, one of the active ingredients in cannabis shares a very similar molecular structure with 2-AG. To be fair, it’s the restriction of 2-AG that has peaked big pharma’s interest.
2-AG and The Cannabis Diet Pill
Recently, researchers conducted an experiment which included genetically engineering brain cells in mice to exhibit low levels of 2-AG – the results were astonishing! A lack of 2-AG seemed to keep mice in a “hypermetabolic state,” allowing them to burn fat faster, and more efficiently.
Generally speaking, the rats became resistant to fat accumulation without changing any habits (i.e. eating less or exercising). It should be noted the subjects blood pressure remained the same, and showed no increased risk of heart disease or diabetes making the results even more promising.

According to scientists, it might take up to $2 billion to make a drug that tweaks the human brain chemistry without any adverse effects. The whole process might take more than a decade before it is released to the consumers. So for now – pass the Cheetos!
